Teru teru bozo - てるてる坊主

June until mid-July is the month of “tsuyu” 梅雨, the rainy season. The days are too hot and humid. So to stop rainy days children make Teru teru bōzu てるてる坊主 , literally "shine shine monk". According to Wikipedia it’s a small traditional handmade made from cloth or paper. This talisman is supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day.

To create this illustration I got some inspiration from Studio Ghibli .
